BC Kindergarten to 12 linked to Census and T1 Family File
1991 - 2022
Overview
Summary
The B.C. Ministry of Education dataset provides student level information for students attending B.C.’s public and independent schools. The data includes information about student characteristics (gender, age, geographic location, etc.) and progress through the education system (graduation, Foundation Skills Assessment results, exam marks, etc.). The data is structured as one record per school year, student and school, such that most students will have one record (data row) per year. Students attending more than one school in a year have multiple records per year. Enrolment data is available from 1991 to present. Some supplementary data such as FSA scores are available in later years. B.C. K-12 data can be linked with other data within the Education and Labour Market Longitudinal Platform (ELMLP) such as: Postsecondary Student Information System (PSIS) and Registered Apprenticeship Information System (RAIS). These files must be added to the MRC. Please note that the Census 2016 must be added to the contract with BCK-12 linked to Census 2016 keys. Lastly, the B.C. Ministry of Education publishes reports and aggregate data on its website as well as through Open Data BC annually. Researchers are encouraged to visit these websites to confirm the values that are generated from this dataset and that they are structuring their queries correctly.
