Abstract (English)

Whereas a significant proportion of the existing literature focuses on computer use in the workplace as a determinant for wage differentials based on older cohorts, this study takes the additional step of estimating the effect of computer skills on earnings while controlling for labor market ability using student test scores from the Canadian Youth in Transition Survey (YITS) and the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). The YITS cohort is among the youngest samples to be applied to this research question. Thus, although results differ between job status and other subsamples, youth participating in the full-time labor market receive no premium on hourly earnings from their computer skills.
