The First Nations principles of OCAP – Ownership, Control, Access, and Possession of First Nations data by First Nations – will be twenty-five years old in 2023. This presentation will discuss OCAP and First Nations data sovereignty in their true context of collective rights. It will also describe the data and information infrastructures First Nations are building to support self-determination and self-governance, including the First Nations Data Centre, the First Nations Data Governance Strategy, and education and training programs, and reflect on what is required for First Nations and mainstream data and information systems to work together.
Join the CRDCN Executive Director and the Director General of Data Access and Dissemination, Strategic Engagement Field, at Statistics Canada for announcements about exciting future data and research opportunities at the CRDCN supported by recent major federal funding awards from federal government partners and by the Network’s new virtual research data centre (vRDC) platform.
Join this data session to hear from Statistics Canada colleagues and CRDCN researchers about features of the Longitudinal and International Survey of Adults. For example, you may learn about key variables, changes over time, data gaps, common questions, etc. You will learn about the researcher experience with the data, such as learned hacks/tips for using the data, socio-demographic categories that can or cannot be investigated.
Join the data session to hear from Statistics Canada colleagues and CRDCN researchers about features of the Census Data and linkages. For example, you may learn about key variables, changes over time, data gaps, common questions, etc. You will learn about the researcher experience with the data, such as learned hacks/tips for using the data, socio-demographic categories that can or cannot be investigated.
Join the data session to hear from Canadian Institute for Health Information colleagues (CIHI), Health Canada and CRDCN researchers about features of the Discharge Abstract Data and linkages. Join CRDCN’s Special Advisor, Michelle Gauthier, in an armchair discussion with three expert data stewards as the CRDCN prepares for the largest data stewardship program launch since its inception: the creation of the first virtual research data access network to Statistics Canada datasets, as she and our three distinguished armchair keynotes delve into what this means for researchers, for policy, for privacy and for the public.
Join the data session to hear from Statistics Canada colleagues and CRDCN researchers about features of the Business Microdata. For example, you may learn about key variables, changes over time, data gaps, common questions, etc. You will learn about the researcher experience with the data, such as learned hacks/tips for using the data, socio-demographic categories that can or cannot be investigated.
Join this session to learn about how a linked dataset gets created within Statistics Canada’s Social Data Linkage Environment (SDLE) from conception within a subject matter division, through to approvals, creation, vetting development, and finally dissemination to the RDC.
In this session, you will hear from the Statistics Canada Questionnaire Design Resource Centre about their processes for reviewing and reworking questionnaires to ensure that information is being captured accurately. This session will offer a rare look at the processes that the census and other surveys are subject to before release.
