This virtual workshop introduces participants to R’s functions and packages for creating geographic maps. The workshop covers working with coordinate systems, projections, and converting latitude and longitude values into points. By the end of the workshop, participants are able to create static and dynamic maps displaying point, line and area data, as well as raster images, including inset maps, and export them for reports or websites.
Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of R and the tidyverse package is required to take full advantage of the workshop.
Objectives:
- Understand R functions and packages for creating geographic maps
- Master the use of coordinate systems and projections
- Learn to convert latitude and longitude values into points
- Create static and dynamic maps displaying point, line, and area data
- Develop practical skills immediately applicable to cartographic projects
