Canadian Survey on Disability linked to Census Housing Data
2017
Overview
Summary
Custom data files were created by Statistics Canada in partnership with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). These files involve customized housing-related data from the 2016 Census of Population for persons who were part of the 2017 Canadian Survey on Disability (CSD) population groups (involving both persons with disabilities and persons without disabilities). The files are intended to be used in conjunction with the complete set of 2017 CSD Analytical Data Files. The files are being made available to researchers through Research Data Centers (RDCs) across Canada. The CMHC data sets link the 2017 CSD records with selected housing-related data from the 2016 Census to provide 16 new variables of special interest to CMHC researchers. In order to facilitate more in-depth analysis of the rich existing CSD datasets, which already include almost 300 linked census variables, the CMHC files link 10 additional census variables and six new custom derived variables (DVs) created by regrouping or combining answers from one or more questions on the 2016 Census long-form questionnaire. Researchers do need to request and be approved for access to: CEN_REC_Housing_CSD_17 file; and CSD 2017
