Biographies of Johanne Provençal and Grant Gibson

Johanne Provençal (Research Program Director, Canadian Research Data Centre Network)?leads CRDCN’s?collaborative research, training and knowledge mobilization?activities and partnership strategy. She?has a career-long track record of developing collaborative initiatives across the university, government?and nonprofit sectors. She has extensive experience in planning, operationalizing and reporting on multi-stakeholder, multi-year, concurrent initiatives. Johanne’s PhD and previous academic work?focused on research funding policy and research as a public good. 

Grant Gibson is the Assistant Director of Research & Evaluation at CRDCN where he has responsibilities in data collection & management, research partnerships, and training programming. He holds a Doctorate in Economics from McMaster University, specializing in Economic Demography and Public Economics, and has experience with a wide variety of data, both survey and administrative.  

Grant is actively involved in the reproducibility and research data management communities. As part of the Canadian Research Data Management Network of Experts, he serves as Co-Chair of the Digital Research Alliance of Canada’s Sensitive Data Experts group. He also works with a variety of other partners in the Canadian research data ecosystem to inform programming and services.  

His research interests lie in health economics, public economics and data science, with a particular focus on measurement and inequality. His work has been published in journals such as Health Economics and Social Science & Medicine.
