Volunteering in Canada: what do we know?

December 4 is International Volonteer Day. We take this opportunity to highlight the research on volunteering being done in the RDCs with various datasets, notably the GSS on Giving, Volunteering, and Participating. Is compulsory volunteering for adolescents an effective means to developing volunteering afterwards, in adulthood? How does charity proximity affect behavior? Are contributions of time and money substitutes or complements? What is the impact of religion, taxation, and social cohesion on volunteering and charitable donations?
