Recipients of ISC/CIRNAC funding share their research at NSIIR forum

In January 2020, the CRDCN partnered with Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) in calling for proposals using data from the Aboriginal Peoples Survey (APS) 2017.

A total of 13 projects were selected for funding awards, with research work addressing topics such as Indigenous Peoples’ access to health services, economic participation and mental health.

Recently, on October 27, some of the award recipients showcased their work at a forum hosted by the Network for Sharing Indigenous Information and Research (NSIIR).

We would again like to congratulate all recipients on their awards and hard work, and recognize those who presented their work at the NSIIR forum:

  • “Indigenous self-employment – do regional policies make a difference?” By Aila Sinikka Okkola, Memorial University of Newfoundland
  • “Health, harvesting, and economic participation of people living in Inuit Nunangat” By Sarah Newell, PhD, University of Ottawa
  • “Exploring the association between food insecurity, economic participation, and mental health outcomes in Aboriginal people in Canada” By Suvadra Datta Gupta, University of Saskatchewan
  • “Family, financial, employment and housing stress: Association with health among Indigenous Populations in Canada” By Helen Cerigo, McGill University
  • “Exploring Predictors of Mental Wellbeing among First Nations adults: Analysis of the APS 2017” By Elaine Toombs, PhD, Lakehead University
  • “Effects of residential schools on health and socio-economic status – structural equation models” by Maude LaBerge, PhD, Université Laval
