Our youth, our response: HIV/HCV policy and programming responses across the Atlantic region
Authors: Anik Dubé and Jacqueline Gahagan
Overview
Abstract (English)
Youth are at risk of HIV/HCV infection through several sources, including unprotected sexual intercourse with an infected partner, use of injection drugs and unsafe tattooing practices. This presentation summarizes the objectives and preliminary results (policy scan) of a 3-year research project that will analyze policies and programs related to HIV/HCV prevention in youth in the four Atlantic provinces in order to develop multi-sectoral policy recommendations for Nova Scotia. In consultation with stakeholders (policy advisors, youth and youth workers), the project will determine how well current policies and programs address the needs of youth and address social determinants of health. This strategy will provide opportunities for policy capacity building through knowledge exchange.
