The accumulation of human capital through education and work experience is essential to our understanding of the interaction between investment into human capital and economic returns to it. Although many studies focused on the economic returns to education, work experience and job tenure received much less attention in the Canadian empirical literature. Furthermore, many of the existing studies, both Canadian and foreign, ignore the major difficulties associated with the estimation of the returns from data. This makes our current knowledge of the issue limited. The purpose of this RFP is to seek proposals for research that will use the longitudinal structure and wealth of information in the Survey of Labour and Income Dynamics (SLID) to provide information on the labour market values of individual’s work experience and education. This information is important in informing policy makers of the potential value of education and training for various groups and for promoting employee investment in education and training.
