Last Friday, Canada’s Supreme Court released its decision regarding the constitutionality of Quebec’s civil law regime for common law couples. Several researchers have used Statistics Canada’s microdata to examine related issues. We’d like to point out Tahany Gadalla’s studies on the impact of divorce and separation on men and women’s poverty rates and income, France-Pascale Ménard’s analysis of the stability of unions in Canada, and Céline LeBourdais et Évelyne Lapierre-Adamcik’s examination of the evolution of family composition in Quebec.
