Job Description

The Technical Support Analyst will report to the Director, Information Technology (IT), within the Canadian Research Data Centre Network (CRDCN). The CRDCN, hosted at McMaster University, is a national platform for leading edge research and training in the quantitative social and population health sciences, creating social, economic, health and environmental benefits for Canadians. The Network is one of Canada’s major science initiatives and provides researchers across Canada with unique access to Statistics Canada survey and administrative data to conduct advanced statistical research and training. A Technical Support Analyst is needed within the IT portfolio to assist and support the preparation for, roll-out of, monitoring, and technical support of the Virtual Research Data Centre (vRDC) project, a new remote access, high performance computing network that will expand data access to researchers located across the country. This role involves supporting a Systems Integration Specialist with technical, administrative, scripted and configuration tasks to ensure that the transition to the vRDC proceeds according to the project timeline. The candidate should be familiar with a range of software and hardware components, including virtualization and security products. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a dynamic environment are essential for success in this role.

The incumbent must have experience with the following:
  • VMware Horizon, VMware NSX, VMware vSphere
  • Dynamic Environment Manager (DEM) and App Volumes
  • Firewalls, network appliances (configuration and monitoring)
  • Concepts of endpoint security (EDR, anti-virus, desktop firewall)
  • Windows 10 and Windows 2019 server administration
  • Windows Server roles and services (DNS, DHCP, AD, CA)
