Résumé (anglais)
Evidence-informed policy, by definition, must be well-informed by the best available research evidence. Many policy makers, however, may not have the time, resources, or skill set to locate, assemble, evaluate and synthesize evidence. Similarly, many researchers may not be aware of the evidence needs of policy makers, nor of how to bring research to bear on the policy process or contextualize research results to best support their uptake. The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) has developed a suite of programs intended to respond to the needs of provincial, territorial and federal health policy makers, bringing high quality and timely research findings into their policy deliberations. These programs also aim to build the capacity of health researchers to establish two-way collaborations within the policy world, increasing the relevance of their research and the likelihood that the evidence will be moved into policy or practice. In this session we will provide an overview of CIHR’s Evidence on Tap initiative (including Best Brains Exchanges and Expedited Knowledge Synthesis), which aims to increase researchers’ capacity to engage with policy-makers and to produce research that responds to their priorities. We will also discuss CIHR’s Science Policy Fellowship program, which aims to help bridge the gap between the worlds of science and policy making by providing funding for researchers to undertake fellowships within established policy settings in Canada and abroad.
