Tracie Afifi

Short Bio: Professor of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba. A recent recipient of CIHR’s prestigious Gold-Leaf prize for early-career research.

Research Area: Child-maltreatment (including all types of abuse).

Harriet MacMillan

Languages: English

Short Bio: Pediatrician, Psychiatrist and Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences, and Pediatrics at McMaster University.

Research Area: Violence against women and children and the effectiveness of various approaches to preventing domestic violence.

Amélie Quesnel-Vallée

Languages: French, English

Short Bio: Associate Professor, Joint Appointment in the Departments of Sociology and Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Occupational Health at McGill University, and Director of the International Research Infrastructure on Social Inequalities in Health (IRIS).

Research Area: Contribution of social policies to the development of social inequalities in health over the lifecourse. She currently studies the impact of public coverage and private health insurance regulation on general and mental health in select OECD countries.

Lori Curtis

Short Bio: Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Waterloo.

Research Area: Labour market issues and health – health inequities and inequalities, particularly those related to affecting children and women.

Scott Patten

Languages: English

Short Bio: Psychiatrist at the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Northeast Calgary and Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences at the University of Calgary.

Research Area: The epidemiology of depressive disorders in Canada and has the goal of integrating various epidemiologic estimates (incidence, recurrence, prevalence, recovery and mortality) into a comprehensive description of the epidemiologic patterns.

Valerie Tarasuk

Shorty Bio: Professor in the School of Public Health, University of Toronto.

Research Area: Food insecurity and food policy especially for those who are homeless or live in poverty.

Arthur Sweetman

Languages: English

Short Bio: Professor of Economics at McMaster University, and Ontario Research Chair in Health Human Resources.

Research Area: Physician incentives, health policy, immigrants integration to the labour market, and higher education policy. 

Jitender Sareen

Languages: English

Short Bio: Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Manitoba.

Research Area: Mental health of servicemen and women and veterans, and mental health/suicide.
