Abstract (English)

The RAASFO announces the publication of the report entitled “The Health of the Francophone Population Aged 65 and over in Ontario.” A report by the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS), as well as two summary reports in English and in French. This report was developed by Louise Bouchard, Ewa Makvandi, Golnaz Sedigh, and Solange van Kemenade, and was funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health. It is based on analysis of data from the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) between 2001 and 2009. The report reveals health disparities between the target population and the rest of the Ontario population. A greater proportion of Francophone seniors in Ontario are: overweight or obese and physically less active, more likely to report poor physical and mental health, have at least one chronic disease, a known limitation Daily activities or they often need help with daily activities. At the same time, they are more likely not to visit a dentist on an annual basis and not to have a family doctor.

Le RAASFO annonce la publication du rapport intitulé “The Health of the Francophone Population Aged 65 and over in Ontario. A region-by-region portrait based on the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS)”, ainsi que de deux rapports de synthèse en anglais et en français. Ce rapport, résultat d’une recherche financée par le Ministère de la santé de l’Ontario a été élaboré par Louise Bouchard, Ewa Makvandi, Golnaz Sedigh et Solange van Kemenade. Il se base sur l’analyse des données de l’Enquête sur la santé dans les collectivités canadiennes (ESCC) entre 2001 et 2009. Le rapport révèle des disparités de santé entre la population ciblée par l’étude et le reste de la population ontarienne. En effet, une plus grande proportion de aînés francophones de l’Ontario sont : en surpoids ou obèses et moins actifs physiquement, plus nombreux à rapporter une mauvaise santé physique et mentale, souffrent d’au moins une maladie chronique, d’une restriction connue des activités quotidiennes ou ils ont souvent besoin d’aide avec les activités quotidiennes. En même temps, ils ont plus tendance à ne pas consulter un dentiste sur une base annuelle, et à ne pas avoir un médecin de famille.
