CRDCN at 25: A Milestone of Growth and Impact

In 2025, the Canadian Research Data Centre Network (CRDCN) proudly celebrates the 25th anniversary of its partnership with Statistics Canada and its Collaborating Institutions—a milestone that reflects its evolution into one of Canada’s most vital research infrastructures.

Over the past quarter-century, CRDCN has grown into a dynamic and collaborative network, enabling thousands of researchers to harness the power of data to inform public policy, advance academic inquiry, and shape social and economic understanding across the country. Its recent renewal as one of Canada’s 19 Major Science Initiatives by the Canada Foundation for Innovation marks a new chapter—one that ensures long-term stability while opening the door to new opportunities for innovation and collaboration.

25 years of partnership with Statistics Canada

To celebrate the 25 years of partnership between the Canadian Research Data Centre Network (CRDCN), Statistics Canada, and university partners across the country, let’s dive back in time to where it all began.

Together, we’ve expanded access to Statistics Canada microdata, increased the number of Research Data Centres nationwide, and enabled more researchers to generate impactful research and publications.
