CRDCN Announces Revised Fee Structure for Data Access

The Canadian Research Data Centre Network (CRDCN) has revised the Access and Fee-for-Service (AFFS) policy. This update reflects both the Network’s and Statistics Canada’s commitment to providing equitable and sustainable access to microdata, as well as our continued dedication to leading a national research infrastructure that supports innovation and discovery for researchers across Canada.

This revised policy comes into effect October 1, 2024. The revised policy incorporates valuable feedback from stakeholders and addresses key factors such as the upcoming introduction of the virtual Research Data Centre (vRDC), significant changes to the cost of maintaining the Network, and the growing number of Collaborating Institutions.

Key highlights of the revised policy include:

Continued access for Collaborating Institutions: CRDCN’s priority is to provide, in partnership with Statistics Canada, microdata access to Collaborating Institutions, recognizing their significant contributions to the Network, along with the financial support from federal funding agencies.

vRDC: The policy outlines the framework for accessing data remotely through the vRDC when it becomes available.

Annual billing: Projects will no longer be monitored for use by hours. Rather, contracts will be subject to an annual fee that covers access for the project team.
